EDFL Previews Hadfield

FOR new Hadfield coach Steve James, forget about whatever has happened at Martin Reserve in the past 24 months. The Hawks are starting again with what is essentially a completely brand new side. Of the 15 confirmed outs listed below, 10 of them played in the Hawks’ 2015 Division 2 Grand Final win over Jacana. In fact, only two of those 22 premiership players remain at Hadfield today – they are Stephen Rasile and Jesse Inzillo. But it’s not all doom and gloom. James has managed to attract more than a dozen new and exciting recruits to help revitalise his senior side. Some are Under 19-eligible, Brandon Smith is a ruckman, Jacob McKerchar can play key position and many of the others will feature prominently in the Hawks’ midfield. Look beyond the surface and you can see the potential for Hadfield to be one of the great surprise packets of the 2017 EDFL Season.

Last Year

2-14 (8th) in Essendon Ford Division 1.

Key Ins

Tom Addison (Albion), Sonny Secombe & Gary Gardner (East Sunbury), Jordan Simmons (Kenmore), Saverio Ward & Cameron Benning (Ord River Magpies), Jacob McKerchar (Therry Penola), Kevin Thompson & Brad White (Wanderers), Luke Larsen & Brandon Smith (Winchelsea) and Martin White & Jarrod White (Wodonga Saints).

Key Outs

Daniel Ferraro (Glenroy), Raafat Rachrache, John Colaidis, Alex Colaidis, Nader Nasra & Sam Nasra (all South Morang), Matthew Grey, Daniel Grey & Chris Grey (all Northern Saints), Corey Clemente & Michael Tang (both West Coburg), Matthew Patane (Hillside), Judd Brewster (Glenroy) and Timothy Robertson & Heath McKerchar (both Wallan).

First Four Games

Hillside (Home), Airport West (Away), Taylors Lakes (Home) & Tullamarine (Away)
